What you keep — written with Dustav, or files you already have.
A document is something the business keeps and reaches for again: a quote, a policy, a class description, your real checklist PDF, the price sheet you already have. Documents don't do anything on their own — they're consulted, attached, and sent. (Words you send over and over are a different shape: a template.)
Two ways in
Create document opens with Make your own — tell Dustav what it's for and Dustav asks for the rest — then the kinds Dustav can write: a quote, a proposal, a contract, a policy, a waiver, an invoice, a job listing and more. Each shows the outline of the page you'll get and what Dustav will ask you for. Pick one and the conversation starts in chat: you answer, Dustav writes it here as a typed document, and you change it the same way, by asking. Nothing starts until you tap.
Upload keeps a file you already have — or drag one anywhere onto the Documents tab. A PDF, a Word file, a spreadsheet, a CSV or an image all work, up to 15MB each. You can also drop a file into chat and ask Dustav to keep it.
An uploaded file has two layers
- The original file, untouched. That's what a customer receives whenever the document is attached to anything.
- A text twin Dustav read out of it once, at upload — the file's own text when it has some, or a careful reading of the pages when it's a scan or a photo. That's what Dustav consults.
An error in the twin can only mislead Dustav's reading; it can never reach a customer, because the customer gets the real file. If a scan read badly, Read it again re-reads it, and Replace file swaps in a cleaner copy — everything that points at the document follows.
Standing documents
Give a document a line saying when it matters — "our refund and cancellation policy" — and it becomes standing: while Dustav reads your inbox, an email that asks about that subject gets answered from your document, in your words, instead of from a guess. The card shows the line as when.
Getting it out
Under a document's title: Download PDF (on your letterhead) and Attach to email, into the same composer and send flow as everything else. An uploaded file downloads as itself. Documents also ride on templates — link the checklist once and every email drafted from that template carries it.
What we deliberately don't build
No WYSIWYG editor, no canned library of someone else's documents, no version history, no e-signature ceremony. Documents are written by talking; the bytes you upload stay yours; and they leave as a PDF or an email — the simplest honest loop.
Deleting a document keeps it recoverable for a moment (there's an Undo); deleting your account purges all of it.
